Fashion is a wonderful thing. Fashion encompasses more than just the right clothes. Fashion consists of clothes, shoes, accessories, makeup, hair, and personality. People that have the best fashion sense have personalities to match that sense. The world of fashion is incredible and it is amazing to look back and see the changes that have happened in fashion.

Many decades ago, women wore modest clothes. It was uncommon to see a woman in pants. Women had a role in society and that role was as a homemaker. As the women’s liberation movement marched on, the changes became obvious in fashion. No longer were women restricted to modest dresses, shoes and aprons. No longer were they confined to the home to take care of the family. Women became an integral part of the workforce. They began wearing business clothes. Short skirts were popular. Once upon a time, women were not supposed to show too much leg. This unspoken rule went out the window with the liberation of women.

Women wore pants and flowing shirts. They were free to express themselves in the way that reflected their personalities. Time marched on and fashion kept right on changing. After the 60′s and 70′s, along came the big hair and shoulder pads of the 80′s. The video music scene came to life and celebrities became an even bigger influence on fashion. Today, women have millions of choices when it comes to fashion. No restrictions are in place like the days of yesterday.

As fashion has changed over the years, one thing remains consistent. People love fashion. They love looking good and feeling good, wearing clothes that make statements. Some people love exuberant fashions while others enjoy simple, modest fashions. Regardless of the preference, fashion is important to millions of people. Fashion is and always will be a huge part of life. From the discount stores to the runway shows of Paris, fashion is everywhere.

If you’ve been searching online for the newest fashion trends in 2011, you will find that there are numerous sites that will give you their opinion. Looking at the spring 2011 fashion shows; you will see that many past trends are being revamped and reworked into whole new collections. Let’s see how things have changed.

What is in right now?

If you’ve loved how designers have brought back certain aspects of the ‘50s and ‘60s fashions, you will certainly enjoy what they are doing with ‘70s fashions this year. Many designers are bringing back the ‘70s bohemian and glamour looks. Think of beautiful flowing dresses and high-waisted pants and elegant blouses. Another trend that is going to be popular in the spring of 2011 will be the biker look. Black leather jackets, lots of buckles, and boots are all going to be seen evolving on the runways of the spring fashion shows. One of the favorite classic looks that are making a comeback this year is the ‘60s “lady-like” look. Beautiful but simple sheath dresses that accentuate the female curves and below-the-knee hemlines are making a wonderful comeback, but with newer, more up-to-date fabrics such as prints, fresher colors and light summery weight fabrics.

Fashion trends that are out this year include those long maxi dresses, knee socks and boots, shrunken vests as well as patent leather clothing. If you want the leather look this year, go for the real leather!

The media is also an important part of the world of fashion. Without the media, designers would not get their fashions noticed. Important fashion shows are always covered by the media. Newspapers, television stations and magazines are all essential parts of fashion.

The media swarms red carpet events. When the rich and famous come out to attend the latest opening or awards ceremony, the media is present. Lights flashing, cameras rolling and interviews are just part of the red carpet scene. The next day, you can pick up any popular magazine and see photos of the celebrities. The media makes it a point to focus on the best and the worst dressed of every event. It seems as if some celebrities thrive on the attention that comes from wearing outrageous clothing. That makes sense because media attention, good or bad, puts a celebrity in the spotlight.

The media helps the world of fashion by letting the world know what is coming, what is outdated and what popular stars are wearing. The media fulfills the need that society has to know everything there is to know about famous people. The media also helps boost the sales of thousands of designer labels. If the media ceased to exist, the world of fashion would suffer from the lack of exposure. That is what the media is all about, exposing things to the world.

When looking back over the past decades, you will see many fashion trends. Most of these were started by celebrities. Celebrities are a huge influence on fashion. Average people see their favorite celebrities wearing certain clothes or styling their hair a particular way and they want to look like them. It has been that way for years. People will change their clothes, their makeup and their hair to look like a celebrity.

Looking back, one popular celebrity trend was the “bad boy” look. This has always been a popular look since James Dean rolled on to the movie scene. Young men wanted to look like this dashing character. Fast forward to the popular television series about Beverly Hills. Luke Perry had that same look and again, the youth of that generation followed his lead.

Another example of a celebrity creating a fashion trend is the look of Madonna. Madonna has always started fashion trends. From wearing her unmentionables on the outside of her clothes to the tousled hair of the early years, people have been dressing like Madonna for years. Even today, although Madonna is a mature woman who seems to have toned down her flamboyancy, you can still find people that have her younger look.

Haircuts have also been mimicked. Jennifer Aniston created a hairstyle rage with her character on a series about friends living in New York City. You may have even had a “Rachel” style several years ago. Farah Fawcett also had a popular hairstyle during her youth. When the Beatles were making history, millions of young fans were copying their look. The youth of the world enjoy the rich and the famous. They enjoy copying their style. This is not likely to change anytime soon. Celebrities have been influencing fashion trends for years and they will always influence the trends. The influence of a celebrity might diminish as they step away from the limelight, but there will always be someone ready to take their place.

Celebrities also get plenty of free clothes because designers want their fashions on famous people. If a celebrity gives a designer negative feedback, you can be sure that particular designer will suffer financially.

If you want to be a fashion icon, you can model your wardrobe after those of the rich and famous. You do not have to spend a fortune on clothes to look like you did. You just have to watch what the celebrities wear and follow their lead. It is important to remember that you do not want to follow the odd looks unless you are ready for some criticism! After all, celebrities are constantly scrutinized for their choice of clothing.

It is a bit amazing how society will follow the famous people and model their lives after them. Celebrity gossip is a prime way to earn a profit. People enjoy gossip and they love knowing how the rich and famous live their lives. Society loves to see celebrities dressed in gorgeous clothes. While it is fine to imitate your favorite celebrity’s style, you should always try to make the style your own. Add your own personal touches to your outfits so that you create a look that represents you, not the celebrity. Your favorite celebrity will be wearing something different in just a few days. Unless you are rich, you cannot possibly keep up with the changing styles of celebrities. You may not have much faith in your sense of style, but if you are admiring the looks of celebrities, you already have good fashion sense.

Make Your Makeup Work For You

Pick a foundation that matches your skin tone. A good way to test is to put a sample of it on your palm and rub it in. It should blend seamlessly if it is the right shade. If you have naturally oily skin use a dry powder, if you have dry skin use a liquid foundation but always remember to remove it before sleeping to keep it from clogging your pores.

The deciding factor in choosing the right eye shadow is to determine your eye color. A good rule is to use a contrasting color, for example for green eyes, shades of purple and pink work well to make the eye stand out and pop. If you have blue eyes try using a version of red shadow to give your eyes some spicy color while complimenting your eye color.

To choose a lipstick shade that is not drastically unnatural. Take the color of the part of your lip that rests next to your teeth and take it two shades darker. Use the mirrors in the store to try to gauge your natural shade and any lipstick color you might be thinking of purchasing.

In this economy, people looking for jobs can’t afford to make mistake during their job hunt. Interviews are a crucial part of the hiring process and how you dress sends an important message to your potential employer. Wear the right clothing and dress for success.

An obvious rule of thumb about interview attire is to always dress professionally. To most of us this should be self explanatory but if you are unsure, err on the side of caution and dress formally. It will always look better to be over dressed than under dressed. A suit and tie for men, and either a pants suit or appropriate skirt and dress for women sends the message to your future employer that you are ready to take the job seriously.

Another important part that some people overlook is to ensure that your clothes are well cared for and your appearance is well groomed. The night before make sure what you are about to wear is clean, free of stains, and ironed. Also take care of little details like removing your half chipped bright orange nail polish. This well tell your employer that you care enough about the job to put in the time to look your best and that you have attention to detail.

The last and perhaps most important rule is to always dress modestly. Even if you think it looks great, don’t risk it. You want your interviewers to be thinking about what’s on your resume instead of what great legs you have. Modesty sends the message that you have take yourself seriously and others should do the same.

While working on your resume and practicing your answers are important steps for preparing for your interview, don’t blow the whole thing by showing up with a distracting or worse, inappropriate outfit.

We spend so much time figuring out the perfect colors for our face that we tend to stick with them for many years after we’ve found the right match. Don’t try to switch up basics like your foundation but you can try out some different eyeshadows and lipsticks than you’re used to. Try to stick with colors that will still work well with your complexion but make a change every now and then to keep you out of the fashion rut.

The Right Way to Wear Skinny Jeans

Skinny jeans are lifesavers in lots of circumstances. They are the perfect style and length for tucking into boots, whether dress boots or snow boots, keeping your pants dry and your cute boots right in everyone’s line of sight. They are also the best fit for wearing longer tops that are too long to be shirts and too short to be dresses.
